Wheat sensitivity report

Learn how your body handles gluten and wheat products

Celiac disease has a strong genetic association. There are some variants of the HLA genes which are very strongly associated with celiac disease. It is thought that in people carrying these variants, gluten is wrongly detected as a harmful pathogen. This results in the formation of auto-antibodies leading to damage of the small intestine. The Gene Food wheat sensitivity test evaluates the genetic markers linked to celiac disease, as well as additional genes that may implicate sensitivity to gluten, such as IL-21.

Carbs are GOOD
★★★★★

“Once I went back to carbs (based on the Okinawa diet) and quit the whole 30/paleo diet as well as any attempts at Keto or low-carb, my weight stopped rising, and actually started to go down (and I didn’t even follow the Okinawa diet very strictly, and did no caloric restriction)!”

Find out how your body actually handles carbs

Low-carb works for some people and backfires for others. In the PREDICT-1 trial, genetics accounted for nearly half of the variation in how much blood sugar rose two hours after a meal. Our CLIA-certified test scores your carbohydrate response across multiple validated SNPs, matches you to one of 20 diet types, and turns it into a plan: the carbs that suit you, the ones to limit, and a two-week meal plan built around them.

Frequently asked questions

With non-celiac gluten sensitivity on the rise, ruling out celiac disease is an important goal for anyone interested in a personalized approach to nutrition. Genetic testing, on its own, cannot diagnose celiac disease. However, there are genetic markers that 95% of those with celiac disease carry, and learning you carry these genetic variants can be a strong clue that further action and investigation is needed.

Some variants of the HLA genes are very strongly associated with celiac disease. It is thought that in people carrying these variants, gluten is wrongly detected as a harmful pathogen. This results in the formation of auto-antibodies, leading to damage to the small intestine.

Understanding your status for genetic markers linked to celiac disease can facilitate a conversation with your physician about follow-up lab testing.

This report is included with the Basic Gene Food DNA test, alongside your diet type and core nutrition reports. Current kit pricing is shown above.

As with all our tests, the gluten intolerance test is a simple cheek swab test. A self-addressed return envelope is included with the test kit, as are detailed instructions for taking the test. The swab sample is sent to our CLIA-certified laboratory in Houston, where the sequencing occurs.
